Chief Medical Officer of Foundation Radiology Group, Dr. James W. Backstrom, was named one of the top radiologists in his field by Pittsburgh Magazine in its annual “Best Doctors” issue. Only thirteen radiologists made the 2012 list out of the over 300 in the area. Dr. Backstrom was one of only three pediatric radiologists featured.
To create the annual “Best Doctors” list, Pittsburgh Magazine uses extensive proprietary balloting software from Best Doctors, Inc. The research utilized draws from the peer referral process that doctors themselves use to determine appropriate specialists for individual cases. This process is internationally recognized and accepted as the gold standard for identifying top-quality doctors.
Renowned in his field of practice, Dr. Backstrom completed his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and an internal medical internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital. During his service to the United States Navy, he was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal and The Naval Commendation Medal.
Dr. Backstrom’s training also includes the completion of a diagnostic radiology residency and six month fellowship in adult neuroradiology at Duke University. Additionally, he earned a pediatric radiology fellowship from The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, NY and a pediatric neuroradiology fellowship from the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
As Chief Medical Officer at Foundation Radiology Group, Dr. Backstrom leads a group comprised of over 50 highly trained, board certified radiologists.
