Richard Vance MD

Chief Executive Officer

As CEO of Foundation Radiology Group, Dr. Richard Vance brings nearly 20 years of experience leading companies in the healthcare services space. Most notably, he served as President and CEO of one of the nation’s largest and most diversified population health companies, which grew both through organic growth and acquisitions. Prior to joining Foundation Radiology Group, he served as an Operating Partner to one of the company’s key investors, Chrysalis Ventures, where he provided management and consulting services to multiple portfolio companies.

Prior to those positions, Richard served as Vice President of Population Health at Humana. He was also Assistant and Associate Professor of Pathology at Wake Forest University Medical School for 10 years, where he was a Foundation Teaching Scholar. He also received the Lansky Award from the College of American Pathologists, for significant contributions to the field of Pathology.

Dr. Vance has a Masters degree from the University of Chicago and his MD from Wake Forest University.

Ruth Wallace

Chief Financial Officer

Ruth Wallace joined Foundation Radiology early in 2016 as its CFO. Ruth brings more than 20 years of experience as an executive and CPA, with emphasis in business transformation and performance improvement. She has served in the leadership positions of CEO, President, CFO and COO for healthcare companies. Her healthcare expertise is with providers, payers, and revenue cycle management services and credentialing. She also worked with KPMG for 10 years in the audit practice.

Ruth has extensive experience delivering improved and profitable results, driving capital and financial transactions, and managing investor and banking relationships. A graduate of the University of Louisville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Ruth earned her Certified Public Account designation, spanning 25 years of experience.

Jim Backstrom MD

Chief Medical Officer

As Chief Medical Officer, James Backstrom, MD, is responsible for directing the clinical initiatives and operations of Foundation Radiology Group. In his role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Backstrom serves as Foundation Radiology’s internal and external “Clinical Ambassador.” His efforts in building a world-class medical staff and obtaining and retaining hospital clients have been paramount to the company’s success.

Dr. Backstrom earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Westminster College, and earned his Medical Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed an Internal Medical Internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital and spent time in the Quantico Naval Medical Clinic.

Additionally, he went through a Diagnostic Radiology Residency and six-month Fellowship in Neuroradiology at Duke University. For his pediatric training, Dr. Backstrom completed a Pediatric Radiology Fellowship at The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, New York, and a six-month Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Shawn Kramer

Chief Operating Officer

Shawn joined Foundation Radiology Group in 2009 with more than 20 years of experience in leading client-facing organizations and optimizing service operations across multiple industries. Before joining Foundation Radiology, Shawn was Director of Service Delivery at Ceridian Corporation, a national provider of Human Capital Management solutions. While there, Shawn was selected for the company’s Six Sigma training program and ultimately achieved Six Sigma Black Belt Certification.

Prior to Ceridian, Shawn was Vice President of Customer Care for XO Communications, responsible for leading the company’s North East regional client services and operations teams. Shawn brings a rigorous, continuous improvement methodology to delivering reliable processes and results to Foundation Radiology’s clients.

Shawn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by an MBA from Duquesne University.

Christopher Radi

SVP, Information Technology

Chris Radi is an accomplished healthcare information technology executive with extensive experience in the specialty pharmacy and radiology industries.

Upon joining Foundation Radiology Group in 2011, Chris transformed the IT department from a traditional department focused on hardware and support to one focused on IT service delivery and strategy. He was able to lead this transformation through the use of effective interaction with customers; employment of incident, problem and change management disciplines; and by becoming a strategic partner with Foundation’s senior management team.

Before joining Foundation Radiology, Chris served as Manager of Information Technology Infrastructure for the Specialty Pharmacy Division at Walgreen Co., where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the Specialty Pharmacy mission critical technology assets.

His background also includes business continuity, systems engineering and telephony. Chris has a Bachelor’s degree in Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a finalist in 2013 for Pittsburgh’s CIO of the Year.

Eric Laughlin

Vice President of Human Resources

Eric joined Foundation Radiology Group in November 2016. He brings over 20 years of experience in human resources and management, spanning multiple industries including healthcare, health insurance, manufacturing and distribution. Eric is responsible for implementing Human Capital Management strategies and solutions that enable Foundation Radiology to attract and retain a high-performing and engaged workforce. He provides a wealth of knowledge and experience in talent management, talent acquisition, benefits, leadership development, employee relations, engagement, HRIS and human capital strategy.

Prior to joining Foundation Radiology, Eric was the Director of Global Talent Management and HRIS for Koppers. Previous to Koppers Eric held multiple positions of increasing responsibility at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Eric received his Bachelor of Science degree from Youngstown State and his Masters of Organizational Leadership from Geneva College.

John Stefanowicz

VP, RCM and Corporate Analytics

John joined Foundation Radiology Group in June 2015 as Director of Revenue Cycle Management and Medical Credentialing. He was awarded his B.S. in Chemistry from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA, and spent more than a decade in manufacturing with Honeywell International before entering the healthcare arena.

During his tenure at Honeywell and then Quest Diagnostics John drove continuous process improvement using Six Sigma and Lean methodologies, in which he is certified. Between his time at UPMC Physician Services, Sutter Gould Medical Foundation, Premier Medical Associates and Foundation Radiology Group, John has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the entire physician revenue cycle while maximizing collections and maintaining compliance.
